Life Science at IWHS is studying the Human Body System. This week’s focus was on the digestive system. Students interacted in a lab where they measured parts of the digestive system that exist in our bodies. They measured the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine and the rectum. They found that the digestive system is coiled up and measures approximately 30 feet long with the small intestine measuring approximately 22 feet long. Our small intestines are long and lined with villi. The villi increases the size of the surface area to absorb as many nutrients as possible during digestion.
